a)Blog title: 1K VIA Learning Blog

b)Objective: It provides fresher air for the school and it also beautify the environment, this allows us to experience the farmers' daily life as well.

 c)Timeline: ~nil~

d)Class Monthly Reflection:

  • From the past few weeks, we could fully understand all the hard work and pain farmers have to put in order for their crops to grow. For example, we once thought watering the plants was an easy job but after these few VIA sections, we found out that it was a quite difficult job as the amount of water watered could matter the life and death of the plants. When too much water was watered, the plant could die because of too much water supplied, the plants could also wither due to the lack of water supplied.

           ~ Yiling(18)

  • I learnt that gardening is not simple. It is very tiring and requires a lot of effort. After this VIA activity, I started to appreciate the food I eat and not waste food as the farmers have surely put in a lot of effort in order to produce the food we are eating.

            ~ Grace(05)

  • From the gardening, I learnt some important value such as being responsible and listening actively. We must be responsible for our own actions and belongings. We must also listen actively so as to not do the wrong things and miss out some of the instructions and stay focus.
           ~ Shun Ming(20)

  • learnt that watering plants is not as easy as you think, carrying the heavy watering can to reach for higher up plants is not easy. We can help the other classes with their work too, we can experience how farmers actually feel to work under the hot sun. We learnt to be proactive and do more than just our ow work but help others too, this value helped our class to contribute more in the project.
           ~ Jessie(6)
  • After via, I learned that I need to work with our classmates to finish our duties. I learn that I am responsible to do my duties. I learned that we need to water an appropriate amount of water so as to keep the plants healthy.
           ~ Liting(19)
  • I learnt that I actually like gardening quite a lot.I would want to start on tiling the soil as watering the plants usually take only about 30 minutes.I learnt that cooperation is key as too many people watering one plant may kill it.
           ~ Douglas(21)
  • From the via, I hv learnt that teamwork is very important by putting up the fence, I learnt that it will be impossible without the help of my friends. Through the via sessions, I have also learnt many skils such as watering plants efficiently.
           ~  Yiyang(30)
  • In the procession of the via, I had to pluck out leaves and weeds from the ground. At first I did not dare to touch it as I thought it was very dirty, but after seeing my classmates plucking them out with their bare hands, I gathered my courage and tries too. Through this I learnt that we should not be afraid in doing this kind of things.
          ~  Chloe(02)
  • During these few weeks of VIA, me and my groupmates have learned many things. Some of the the things I learnt is that we, when we work together, can achieve and accomplish many things successfully even in a short period of time. During the past few weeks, me and my groupmates did some of the fence around the garden. In conclusion, I find this VIA very meaningful and helpful to us even though we have only been doing it for a very short period of time.
         ~ Keagan(23)
  • Although the sun is very hot, during VIA , we persevered through . We had a very fruitful experience from the VIA. Outside school, we will not get this chance to do gardening, therefore, we are thankful that we have this opportunity to show care and concern for the school.
         ~ Sammy(13)
  • After my VIA, I have picked up the value of perseverance and teamwork. Despite the hot weather, I still worked together with my classmates to dig the hard ground. We were all sweaty and used up a lot of strength. But we didn't give up just because we were tired but instead continued digging. I have also learnt that I need to work together with my classmates to be more efficient and in the midst of hard work, we were actually enjoying ourselves.
         ~ Rainer(29)
  • I have learnt that we need teamwork in order to do the work fast and effective. I would be more concentrated in the work and find ways to solve the problem. I have also learnt that we need to adapt to changes quickly to do the gardening well.
         ~ Tong Yan (32)
  • When doing via I learn that we need to work together to water the plants. Without teamwork, if two person watered a plant, the plant would die.
          ~Han Bin(28)

  • Through the weekly VIA, I learnt that nothing would be ever done if nobody took the initiative to help out and this is the same to the society. I learnt that one single person can actually make a difference on how much work can be done within a period of time and apparently, the more the merrier. This make me learn and come to a conclusion that everyone should have a place and pat to play in helping everyone around regardless of how small the task may seem, like sweeping the floor in the shed, everyone counts and this little act makes a huge difference.
           ~ Geraldin(4)

From this experience, we have learnt that we need team work and effort in order to do a good job,and finish our work faster and more effectively. Team work is definitely needed as if more than one person water the plants , the plants will surely die. We also found out how hard it is for farmers and gardeners to do these job as they need to stand under the hot sun for almost a whole day.

We could add in some punishments whereby those who did not do their work gets punished and this could bring joy to the team mates.

We have learnt the skill of listening attentively. It is very important for us to listen well, not only to the teacher, but also to our team mates. If we do not listen attentively, we may miss out important instructions given out which may lead to us making mistakes.
